
Samosa (Potato and Spiced Pastry)
A popular Indian snack, Samosas are crispy pastries filled with a savory mixture of spiced potatoes and peas, perfect as an appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Water as needed
For the Filling:
- 2 large potatoes boiled and mashed
- 1/2 cup peas cooked
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
For Frying:
- Vegetable oil
Instructions
Make the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and oil. Gradually add water and knead into a firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Prepare the Filling:
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Stir in turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, and mashed potatoes. Add peas, mix well, and cook for 2 minutes. Let it cool.
Assemble the Samosas:
- Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into a thin circle. Cut each circle in half. Fold into a cone shape and fill with the potato mixture. Seal the edges with water.
Fry the Samosas:
- Heat oil in a deep pan. Fry the samosas in batches until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with green chutney or tamarind sauce.
