
Gratin Dauphinois (Gruyère Cheese Baked Potatoes)
A rich and creamy French dish, Gratin Dauphinois features thinly sliced potatoes baked with cream, garlic, and Gruyère cheese to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 kg potatoes thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup Gruyère cheese grated
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter for greasing
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg optional
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Layer the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish, overlapping slightly. Season each layer with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of nutmeg (if using).
- In a saucepan, heat the cream and minced garlic until warm but not boiling. Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle Gruyère cheese evenly on top.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
- Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
