Naan (Oven-Baked Indian Bread)
A soft and fluffy traditional Indian bread, naan is perfect for pairing with curries and stews, with a slight charred flavor from being cooked in a hot oven or skillet.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tbsp melted butter or ghee
- Optional: chopped cilantro or minced garlic for garnish
Mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a bowl. Add yogurt and warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover the dough and let it rest for 1 hour.
Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into an oval or round shape.
Heat a skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on one side until bubbles form. Flip and cook the other side until golden spots appear.
Brush with melted butter or ghee and sprinkle with cilantro or garlic if desired. Serve hot.
