
Spicy Fried Calamari
Crispy fried calamari seasoned with flavorful spices for a delicious appetizer or main course.
Ingredients
- 500 g squid rings cleaned
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal optional for extra crispiness
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk or milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar
- Oil for frying
- Lemon wedges and parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Place the squid rings in a bowl and soak them in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cornmeal (if using), paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet to 180°C (350°F).
- Remove the squid rings from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off, and coat them in the flour mixture.
- Fry the squid rings in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges and garnish with parsley.
