Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup boiling water

For the Fudge Frosting

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a small 6-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, vegetable oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until smooth.
  • Stir in the boiling water until fully combined (the batter will be thin).
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, heat the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow the frosting to cool slightly until it thickens.
  • Spread the fudge frosting over the cooled cake. Slice and serve.
