
Masala Dosa (Spiced Potato-Filled Crepe)
A popular South Indian dish, Masala Dosa features crispy rice and lentil crepes filled with a flavorful spiced potato mixture, served with chutney and sambar.
Ingredients
For the Dosa Batter:
- 1 cup rice
- 1/2 cup urad dal split black gram
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds
- Water for soaking and grinding
For the Potato Filling:
- 3 medium potatoes boiled and mashed
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 green chili chopped
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Soak rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds in water for 6 hours. Grind them into a smooth batter and let it ferment overnight.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and green chili, and sauté until aromatic. Add onions and cook until soft. Mix in turmeric, mashed potatoes, and salt, cooking for 2 minutes.
- Heat a flat skillet or dosa pan. Spread a ladle of batter into a thin circle. Cook until the edges lift, then add potato filling to the center and fold the dosa over.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
