
Butter Chicken
A classic Indian dish, Butter Chicken features tender chicken pieces simmered in a creamy, spiced tomato-based curry sauce.
Ingredients
For the Chicken Marinade:
- 500 g chicken breast or thigh cubed
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 1 tsp garlic minced
For the Curry:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
For Garnish:
- Fresh cilantro leaves
- Swirl of cream
Instructions
- Mix all marinade ingredients in a bowl and coat the chicken. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator.
- Heat butter in a large skillet or pan over medium heat. Add marinated chicken and cook until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add more butter if needed. Sauté onions, garlic, and ginger until soft and fragrant.
- Stir in tomato puree, chili powder, cumin, and coriander powder. Cook for 5 minutes until the oil separates.
- Add the cooked chicken to the sauce. Stir in heavy cream and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the chicken is tender and the sauce is rich.
- Garnish with cilantro leaves and a swirl of cream. Serve hot with naan or steamed rice.
