
Kung Pao Chicken (Spicy Chicken with Peanuts)
A classic Chinese dish, Kung Pao Chicken features stir-fried chicken, peanuts, and vegetables in a spicy, savory sauce.
Ingredients
- 500 g chicken breast or thigh cubed
- 1/2 cup peanuts
- 1 red bell pepper diced
- 1 green bell pepper diced
- 6-8 dried chili peppers
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
Instructions
- Mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and cornstarch mixture in a bowl to prepare the sauce.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add dried chili peppers and cook until aromatic.
- Add chicken cubes to the pan and stir-fry until browned and fully cooked. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, stir-fry garlic, ginger, and bell peppers for 2-3 minutes.
- Return the chicken to the pan and add the peanuts. Pour the sauce over the mixture, stirring well to coat everything evenly.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
