  • 500 g pork shoulder or tenderloin
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tsp red food coloring optional, for traditional appearance

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, Shaoxing wine, five-spice powder, sesame oil, garlic, and red food coloring (if using).
  • Place the pork in a resealable bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the pork, ensuring it is well coated. Marinate for at least 4 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.

  • Remove the pork from the marinade, reserving the marinade. Place the pork on the wire rack and roast for 30 minutes.
  • Brush the reserved marinade onto the pork and roast for an additional 10-15 minutes, basting occasionally, until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
  • Let the pork rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with steamed rice or noodles.
