Gyoza (Japanese Dumplings)

A popular Japanese dish, Gyoza are pan-fried dumplings filled with flavorful meat and vegetables, served with a savory dipping sauce.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 g ground pork or chicken
  • 1 cup cabbage finely chopped
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 20-25 gyoza wrappers
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup water

For Dipping Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, mix ground meat, cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil until well combined.
  • Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each gyoza wrapper. Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it in half, and pleat to seal tightly.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange the gyoza flat side down in the skillet and cook until the bottoms are golden brown, about 2 minutes.
  • Add water to the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam the gyoza for 4-5 minutes until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers are tender.
  • Remove the lid and cook for another 1-2 minutes to crisp the bottoms.
  • Mix the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl and serve alongside the gyoza.
