
Gyoza (Japanese Dumplings)
A popular Japanese dish, Gyoza are pan-fried dumplings filled with flavorful meat and vegetables, served with a savory dipping sauce.
Ingredients
- 200 g ground pork or chicken
- 1 cup cabbage finely chopped
- 2 green onions chopped
- 1 garlic clove minced
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 20-25 gyoza wrappers
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil for frying
- 1/4 cup water
For Dipping Sauce:
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil until well combined.
- Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each gyoza wrapper. Wet the edges of the wrapper with water, fold it in half, and pleat to seal tightly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange the gyoza flat side down in the skillet and cook until the bottoms are golden brown, about 2 minutes.
- Add water to the skillet and cover with a lid. Steam the gyoza for 4-5 minutes until the filling is cooked through and the wrappers are tender.
- Remove the lid and cook for another 1-2 minutes to crisp the bottoms.
- Mix the dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl and serve alongside the gyoza.
