A hearty Japanese noodle soup, Ramen features a rich broth, tender noodles, and various toppings like pork, eggs, and vegetables, tailored to different flavor profiles.
Ingredients
For the Broth (Base):
- 6 cups chicken or pork stock
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1- inch ginger grated
For Tonkotsu (Pork Broth):
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mirin
For Shoyu (Soy Sauce Broth):
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
For Miso (Fermented Soybean Broth):
- 3 tbsp white miso paste
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
For Toppings:
- 400 g fresh ramen noodles
- 200 g pork belly sliced and cooked
- 4 soft-boiled eggs halved
- Green onions sliced
- Bamboo shoots optional
- Nori seaweed sheets
- Corn kernels optional
Instructions
Prepare the Broth:
- Heat sesame oil in a large pot. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add the stock and simmer for 30 minutes.
Flavor the Broth:
- For Tonkotsu: Add soy sauce and mirin.
- For Shoyu: Add soy sauce and rice vinegar.
- For Miso: Whisk in miso paste and soy sauce until dissolved.
Cook the Noodles:
- Boil ramen noodles in a separate pot according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
Assemble the Ramen:
- Divide the noodles among bowls. Ladle the hot broth over the noodles. Top with pork slices, halved eggs, green onions, bamboo shoots, nori, and optional toppings like corn.
- Serve immediately while steaming hot.
