Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg potatoes thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese grated
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter for greasing
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Layer the sliced potatoes evenly in the dish, overlapping slightly. Season each layer with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of nutmeg (if using).
  • In a saucepan, heat the cream and minced garlic until warm but not boiling. Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle Gruyère cheese evenly on top.
  • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbling.
  • Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
