
Yogurt and Spiced Falafel
Golden and crispy falafel made with a blend of spices and served with a creamy yogurt dipping sauce. Perfect as a snack or appetizer.
Ingredients
For the falafel:
- 1 can 400 g chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1/2 small onion chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp flour or chickpea flour for gluten-free
- Olive oil for frying
For the yogurt sauce:
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt or dairy-free yogurt
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, parsley, cilantro, garlic, onion, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is finely chopped but not pureed.
- Add the flour and pulse again until the mixture holds together when pressed.
- Form the mixture into small balls or patties.
- Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the falafel in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden and crispy.
- For the yogurt sauce, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, and salt in a small bowl.
- Serve the falafel warm with the yogurt dipping sauce on the side.
